Blue Plate Special or Daily Lunch Special ...Are you looking for a place that serves old-fashioned, down-home country cooking like Grandma or Mom (maybe Dad or Grandpa) used to make? A place with character, and maybe some characters, as well. A place that's not too fancy and usually small, but full of happy, satisfied diners enjoying what is often described as southern comfort food or, sometimes, soul food? Have you been searching for a Blue Plate Special or Daily Lunch Special at one of those main street, downtown, back-alley, or out-of-the-way places you used to go to when you were a kid?
Southern Comfort Food ...You're in luck! There are plenty of those places still out there. The food is commonly categorized as Southern Comfort Food, and the establishments offering this popular fare are often termed a "Meat and Three" (also Meat-n-Three, Meat-and-Three, or Meat'n'Three). Their popularity seems to be growing, even though some publications and writers will try to deny the fact.
Open to a simple suggestion? You be the judge! Make your own decision! The hearty spirit of entrepreneurs in America who are opening up new Meat and Threes (or are continuing on in someone else's footsteps), is strong and moving forward, and the the list of Meat and Threes on our site is growing, too. Please take a look at the ones we have compiled (or, click on a state to the left) and discover a new Meat and Three in your neck of the woods, or find one to visit wherever your travels may take you.
Know of a good Meat and Three? If you know of a great Meat and Three that serves great lunch specials or blue plate specials (Meat-and-Three's) and is not on our site, please let us know. They do not necessarily have to serve southern comfort food, per se, but they do need to offer a "one meat and three vegetables" item on their menu. (Sorry, restaurant chains aren't allowed!) Feel free, also, to email any comments or suggestions about our site.
